Astrology FAQ

The questions everyone asks at the party, answered.

What is a natal birth chart?
Astrology charts show the planetary positions across the zodiac at the moment of birth. This image represents the view of the sky from Earth at the place and time of a person’s first breath. The chart describes energies present throughout a person’s life. The unique configuration indicates personality traits, natural strengths and opportunities to grow.
Moon sign? But I thought I was a Capricorn (or Aries, Leo, Aquarius…)
Yes, you are! But astrology is much more layered than that. The typically known “star sign” is only a part of your astrology. That sign refers to the position of the Sun within the zodiac the moment you were born. The other planets and configurations show parts of your personality, too. You are way more than just your sun sign!
What’s the purpose?
Astrology is a wonderful way to learn about ourselves and create space to celebrate our uniqueness. It’s a tool to help describe our experiences. This spiritual practice brings us closer to understanding the connectedness of all things, the cycles of life and the beauty of humanity. It’s a tool for self awareness, understanding and celebrating being human.
How does it work?
Astrologers have been studying the connection of the planets to human behavior on Earth for over 4,000 years. Clear connections have been made, and the practice of astrology has survived through the centuries, though it has often been repressed. There are many theories as to how it works. You are encouraged to find the meaning that is most useful to you. Even if you’re still unsure, there is great value in creating space to study yourself and ponder our existence. You may find joy, connection and a sense of knowing.
What about free will?
Astrology does not conflict with free will. It shows potentials and opportunities. There is so much room for you to use your astrology to live the life of your dreams. The chart shows what energy is present so you can use it to your advantage! By the way, the planets aren’t doing anything “to you.” Astrology shows how planets mirror human behavior. One does not cause the other. They are a reflection of each other.
Whoa, this really works. Why isn’t astrology more popular?
There are misconceptions about astrology that conflict with predominant religious, spiritual and cultural practices in the world. Newspaper horoscope columns and memes have reduced astrology to a punchline, and the culture of science as the ultimate truth distracts from unseen phenomena. For these reasons, astrology has been minimized in society. But it’s becoming more and more practiced and accepted in modern times. Astrology has long been used by kings, presidents, world leaders, celebrities and everyday people who approach it with an open mind. Now it can become a helpful tool in your life as well!
What else can astrology do?

Astrology can be used to dive deep on many topics. A detailed reading with an astrologer can help you understand the life themes and cycles represented in your chart. Common uses:

  • Natal chart analysis: reviews an individual life. Strengths, characteristics, themes and opportunities to grow.
  • Timing techniques: shows cycles of change, conflict and flow for a natal chart.
  • Synastry charts: combines charts to see the connection points of two people. Romantic partners, friends, parent and child, siblings or business partners.
  • Event charts: looks at specific events to see the cycles surrounding them, like a meeting, wedding, business launch or new home.
